Artisana is a non-profit organisation that promotes the welfare of weavers and other craftspeople in West Bengal. Their pieces are sourced from rural artisans, providing much needed work and keeping alive traditional crafts such as Kantha stitch.
Kantha embroidery is a famous traditional art form in West Bengal. Village women re-cycle old saris and dhotis by embroidering intricate folk motifs with thread taken from the edges of the garments. Each exquisite piece is a labour of love and takes many months to complete.
