Ankur Kala was started in 1982 by Annie Joseph, who recognised the need to assist women from the slums who were victims of domestic abuse or without opportunity . She set up a centre to provide training in order for the women to become financially independent.
The charity provides training in batik, tailoring and designing and making greeting cards. The women are also taught production, research and business skills, and once their training is complete they can either start their own production units or work from home, earning money from the sale of their handicrafts.
Their love heart cards are the perfect Valentine gift.
